Kaeng Krachan National Park

From highway H4 just behind Tha Yang you turn into H3175 to Thailand's largest national park (2920 sq km), which extends to the Burmese border in the west. In this mountainous and difficult to access area in thick subtropical rainforest 40 species of mammals are found, among them are about 200 wild elephants, a few tigers, Malayan bears and banteng (wild cattle) as well as smaller jungle inhabitants such as otters, giant monitor lizards, gibbons, macaques and even Siamese crocodiles. The region is home to more than 250 bird species among them are several endangered species. With a little bit of luck you can see hornbills, snake eagles, peacocks and pheasants, at Bangkrang Camp even porcupines and civet cats. Larger and more dangerous animals are best watched at Panoen Thong Camp. More information at:
