Beach 99 offers pretty wooden bungalows some of which sit right on the beach. There is one bungalow right next to the water which comes with a very pretty wooden terrace and a hammock. There is a restaurant next to the water with a nicely decorated sitting and lying area on top of a rock. Altogehter beach 99 has a really nice atmosphere.
Beach 99 has existed for 25 years and is being managed by a lovely Thai family. Many of the guests have been here before.
Test breakfasts have proven: Beach 99 has the best muesli on the island!

Cookies Bungalows offers a great setting with big rocks and trees on the beach. There is a swing on which you can swing above the water during high tide. Nice view of the sea and the little island. The bungalows are made from wood, with little adjecent toilets built from bricks and concrete. Five bungalows directly on the beach.
There is a restaurant on the biggest rock with a spectacular view. In the front of the rock you can sit.
On the other side of the restaurant the beach is much wider, with little rocks and shallow water. Cookies has some more bungalows there in different styles, but a little bit older.
Surfboards, kajaks, jetski, kiteboard equipment for rent.
Nice atmosphere, many freaks.
Cookies is also well worth a visit at night. Many people from the whole beach gather for drinks and listen to the chilled out music.

The resort is a little small and is located at the bigger part of Plaaylaem Beach. Pimmada Huts offers a small pool as well as a restaurant with sunset view.
The nice little bungalows are quite close to each other, built in two rows. In between there is a nice garden. Some bungalows are wooden, others made from concrete.
Above the restaurant, there is one room with a very pretty view of the ocean.

Wonderful Shambhala Bungalows have been built well thought out along the hill so that almost every single one has a perfect view. Steps decorated with mussels lead to the bungalows some of which are made from bamboo, others from concrete. Between the bungalows there are many beautiful plants and fountains. Some even have their own little fish pond!
Swiss manager Carlo has taken into account any wish his guests might have, so the rooms are equipped with many small details that make all the difference like towel holders, huge mirrors and a safe. The darkly painted wood and the fantastic terraces make for a cosy and luxurious atmosphere.
Furthermore, there is a shady reading corner and an island floating 50 meters off the coast.
The food which is being delivered right to your terrace is authentic Thai and very, very tasty.
Right on the beach they are just building a brandnew wooden restaurant (January 2011).
Carlo is very helpful and nice and he knows the island for a good 20 years.

Not much on first sight, this place is one the author's favorites on the whole island: New Porn Sawan offers very simple bungalows, some of which sit right on the beach. The garden is simple as well, palmtrees and other trees offer shade. Once you've moved here, it gets really hard to leave. The rickety huts have their own personal charm and the location is simply unbeatable. especially the bungalows at the Northern end of the resort offer an incredible quietness and great views of the rock dotted beach.
The reception is the reception of Sea Rock Resort.
The manager, a Thai lady, is very nice and helpful.

Blue Sea Bungalows is currently being built (March 2011), but will probably be a very pretty and luxurious resort at the rather rocky part of Plaaylaem.

Sea Sunset offers small concrete bungalows in two rows, none of which is located next to the water. But the resort still has a very nice atmosphere, due to the pretty garden and the great restaurant. The restaurant offers several terraces above the water which offer great views. Chocolate Bar right at the waterfront is very nicely decorated and plays selected tunes. Beautiful trees offer shade. You won't hear anything but birds and waves here.
Almost every day for sunset, the staff will start a soccer match right on the beach. Almost everyone joins in!
Very nice Thai management and lovely staff. Family atmosphere.

Sea scene is a rather big resort with palmtrees and other plants in a nice garden behind a wide beach. There are some rocks in the shallow water.
Big concrete bungalows with terraces. A little further behind there is a restaurant. Seats at the waterfront. Internet corner.
Many families come here.

Sabai Bay Resort is a chic, newly built resort with modern wooden bungalows which are nicely decorated and have big glass fronts. Several of them sit right at the waterfront, others are built on rocks.
Many trees on the beach, beachchairs.
The restaurant is rather plain compared to the rest of the resort.
Nice garden.
Friendly management (Thai).

The Amstardam Bar & Stone Hill Resort offers nicely decorated concrete rooms with A/C, mini-bar, hot shower, modern bathrooms and verandas.
Around the bungalows there is a beautiful garden with big boulders.
On top of the garden there is Amsterdam Bar with great sunset views, drinks and tunes.

A's Beach Place is a branch of A's Coffeeshop in Thongsala and is located right next to the coastal road. The sitting area, approx 80 meters above the ocean, offers great views, especially for sunsets.
Thai food, cocktails, coffee, some Western dishes.

The road runs steep through Stone Hill Resort all the way to the top. At the foot of the stairs you park your motorbike, then you walk the last meters.
Up there on the open terrace you have a fantastic panorama. On the platform which seems to float above the bay, you can sink down into one of the cushions and enjoy the view.

Top Rock Bar is Amsterdam Bar's biggest competitor in the fight about who offers the better sunset views.
The views are both equally spectacular!
Top Rock Bar appears to be a little more natural, less pretentious than Amsterdam Bar.

Paschke Bar is located between the main road and Grand Sea Resort and offers a few tables, a bar and a pool table. Free wifi.
During the day it is not very pretty here and due to the road also quite loud. At night it is a good place for a pitstop and a game of pool.

Chocolate Bar is part of the cosy Sea Sunset Resort. Nicely decorated and located right at the beachfront the bar invites you to stay longer. Selected music, a big selection of drinks and very nice staff.

A little far out, at the main road, Caipi Bar is especially interesting when everything else in Plaaylaem is already closed. The management consists of people who used to run Top Rock Bar.
Watch out on the way here: There have been several robberies recently!
