From Ranong there are only two directions that you can go by bus:
-- All busses to the north go to Chumphon or bypass Chumphon on their way to Bangkok
-- To the south most busses go to Khao Lak and Phuket, except for the bus to Surat Thani which branches off at Ratchakrut and drives through Patho and Lang Suan and the bus to Krabi that branches off at Takua Pa and goes via Kapong and Phang Nga to Krabi
The Rungkit bus leaves Ranong 7 times per day to Phuket. Coming by boat from Koh Chang or Koh Phayam, you will catch the bus at 12.30 h, so that you reach Khao Lak by 16.15 h in the afternoon. After the visa run you will catch the bus at 14.30 h.
The Rungkit bus does NOT depart from the bus terminal, but from the ticket office near the tourist information.
The Rungkit bus leaves Ranong 4 times per day to Chumphon. Coming by boat from Koh Chang or Koh Phayam, you get the bus at 13.30 h, after the visa run at 15.30 h.
The bus to Bangkok comes either from Phuket or departs from the bus terminal in Ranong directly.
From the bus terminal in Ranong various busses to other destinations in the south depart every day. The Aircon 2 Class Bus to Krabi passes Takua Pa, Kapong and Phang Nga, but NOT Khao Lak.
The Rungkit Tour bus from Chumphon to Phuket via Kuraburi, Kapoe, Khuraburi, Takua Pa and Khao Lak departs from the ticket office near the tourist information, all other busses from the bus terminal.
Minivan
There is also a minivan service to Chumphon and to Surat Thani departing every hour. The minivans depart in the city near Rattanasin Hotel, but make a stop at the bus terminal.
Airplane
The airplane service to Ranong seems to change every year or so.
