Chumphon has become the hub of transport for the south of Thailand.
Enterprising businessmen started the best ferry service for the islands in the Gulf, a very efficient minivan service to all major tourist destinations in the south, and a minivan taxi service taking tourists as far as Bangkok for a reasonable rate.
Only the airline service became a clear blunder, mainly because the airline operators did not adjust the plane time table to the established boat time tables.
Now a new airline service by Solar Air has started that works in cooperation with the Lomprayah Catamaran service, so there is a chance that it may survive this time.
Historically almost all passenger trains arrive at Chumphon late in the night, so the SRT service remains not the best option to imagine.
