Destination: Phetchaburi

Traditional Thailand at its best

Total Page Views for Phetchaburi: 418,275 - Views this week: 418,275
This route along the Gulf Coast is an excellent option for tourists heading to their holiday beach in the South.
For a relaxing introduction into Thailand, we recommend to take a private taxi with a driver-guide.
Taking Highway H35 westward through Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram provinces you pass the salt flats where endless bags of salt are produced by evaporation of salt water in various steps.
Day 1: From Bangkok to Phetchaburi

Reaching Phetchaburi in the afternoon you have time to visit the viewpoints on Khao Wang and stay in town for the night or alternatively proceed to Ban Krog and get a first hand impression of the life in a Thai village before you put up in your room in Dato Farm.

Day 2: Culture in Phetchaburi

Phetchaburi is an ancient town that has never been engaged in a war and never burned down, so many old temples remain with their cultural treasures intact. Select a few of them, visit one or two palaces and around noon time head for Khao Luang cave, where the sunlight illuminates scores of Buddha statues in a remarkable underground cavern. Quite investigative monkeys await you outside. Proceed to Hua Hin where you can visit the famous night market and indulge into a sumptuous seafood dinner by the seaside.

Day 3: From Hua Hin to the beach at Ban Krut

Various viewpoints invite you for a birds eye view of the city of Hua Hin, the urban beach of Hua Hin, the beautiful bay of Prachuap Khiri Khan and the pristine beaches at Ban Krut. Put up for the night in a beachside resort according to your liking and your budget.
If you climbed all these hills today, you will go to rest early.

Day 4: From Ban Krut to Thung Wua Laen

This is a day for nature lovers who will drive on country roads seeing sights that are extremely beautiful but hardly known to exist in Thailand. Take your time on the road, catch a few glimpses of rural life and take a closer look at a Chinese temple in the middle of nowhere. Spend the evening in a friendly bar with live guitar music by the seaside at the quiet beach of Thung Wua Laen.

Day 5: To Chumphon and your holiday beach

If you intend to reach your holiday beach on Koh Samui, in Krabi, on Phuket or in Khao Lak today, this will be a day with 5 to 6 hours of driving on highways. So get up early and follow the hints of your driver for photo and refreshment stops in order to reach your destination before sunset.

First alternative: An extra day at the beginning: Ratchaburi

The caves and mountains around Ratchaburi are full of surprises. It takes about 4 hours in the afternoon to see most of them -- a very rewarding time.

Second alternative: An extra day at the end: Ranong

The driving time on the last day might just be a little too much. So an overnight stop at one of the beautiful New Generation Hotels might be an experience not to be missed.
