The two kilometer long, slightly curved sandy beach in the west is a perfect spot at high water for swimming. Otherwise, you have to wade out to deeper water passing corals and rocks. Most of the year this beach offers good snorkeling opportunities, the water is clear and the bay lies protected. The coral reef starts just 100 m from the shore. At times nasty sand flies can annoy you on this wide and beautiful beach. Many nice small restaurants and bars are situated between the beach and the concrete path. The bungalow resorts are mainly on the other side. It is pleasant to walk along the beach instead of using the concrete path giving way to motorcycles all the time. Nevertheless, this path is highly appreciated by people with buggies and wheelchair users. The small village of Sairee lies in the hinterland and has experienced a construction boom in recent years. Sai Ri Beach, the longest and most popular beach of the island has developed its southern and middle part into a party beach. The area around AC Resort is not suitable for those seeking tranquility. The northern part of the beach with its small bays and steep hills offers a quiet atmosphere. Nature lovers feel at ease here.
All resorts are set under tall coconut palms and the beach is shaded by many broad-leafed trees. Not all resorts keep their beach clean. During long weekends and on public holidays many Thais come to this beach for relaxation. Almost all resorts belong to a dive school, therefore many decent rooms are dead cheap in combination with a dive course (for example 100 Baht instead of 400 Baht).
A huge choice of nice beach restaurants are available. Some of them are very touristy and others have steep prices. But there is something for everyone.
