From Nong Khai to Si Chiangmai

In the direction to the west, the road H211 runs along the Mekong for about 200 km, first through intensely used agricultural plains, then through a diversified river landscape. During dry season the Mekong's water level falls about 8 - 14 metres and islands, sand banks and rapids are formed everywhere. At this time the scenery is not very impressive.
The buses to Pak Chom do not take the new coast road which leads through a magnificent landscape (28 km), but they go further south via H2 and then on H211. They reach the Mekong at the village of Tha Bo only after 41 km.
