Koh Lantas Caves and National Park

It is easy to explore Koh Lanta  yourself as the roads were all paved since 2011. You can either rent a motorbike or a small car or jeep to start the tour around the island. If you are not an experienced motorbike driver it is safer to rent a car.

Two suggestions of where to rent a car or bike, you can also ask at the front desk of your accommodation.

Moo 1 Ban Saladan Koh Lanta, Krabi 81150

From Ban Saladan head south, the road takes you through Klong Dao, then Phra-Ae Beach also called Long Beach and then to Klong Khong further south.

After Klong Khong the road leads along the water until you see the big Rawi Warin Resort on your right hand side. This is the beginning of Klong Nin.
Follow the road further south, after the gasoline station and the Seven Eleven on your right go straight on following the road to the East after about 1.8 km you see a sign Mai Keow Cave. Take a right and follow the road - paved and then dirt track for about 2 km until you get to the entrance of the cave. We recommend you to take a guide and a torch to visit the cave.

Tham Mai Kaeo (Diamond Cave) (ถ้ำเข้าถ้ำแ้ก้วไม้เพรช) (KohLanta)

Tham Khao Mai Kaeo(Diamond Cave) is close to Klong Nin and was discovered several years ago. Follow the signs before the turning to Klong Nin Beach and turn right. You can find a small settlement at the entrance to the cave. From there a small footpath through intact forest with trees of 50 meters high leads you to the caves. You have to climb over bamboo ladders and steep steps that lead from one cave to the next. The cave system consists of three caves. We recommend taking a guide from the village who will take you there safely and the price of 200 baht includes a torch.

Tham Sua (Tiger Cave) (ถ้ำเสือ) (KohLanta)

Tham Sua (Tiger Cave) was recently discovered. Follow the signs to Info Tham Sua and take a guide for 200 Baht. After 20 minutes walk through the jungle a hole in the ground forms the entrance to the cave. After climbing down the bamboo ladder you will be impressed by the cave´s stalactites and stalagmites.

From Mai Keow Cave return to the main road and take a left until you get to the Klong Nin Gasoline station. Instead of taking a right you take a left into Klong Nin Village. Follow the road along the water. After a small climb about 2 kms you can see the sign Tiger Cave (Tham Sua) to your left. Just follow the sign and the road takes you to the entrance of the cave. We do recommend to take a guide if you want to visit the cave.
Go back to the main road and turn left if you want to continue to the National Park and the Waterfall.
After climbing the hill you will find the Diamond Cliff Beach Restaurant, which has a stunning view over a little bay. You can get down to the beach from there. Diamond Cliff View is a perfect place to watch the sun set.
The next village is Kantiang Bay, this is Koh Lanta´s poshest beach. Take your time and visit the Same Same but different restaurant at the end of the beach, they do the best `Chicken Cashew Nuts` on the island and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere to it.
Just after Same Same but Different the road goes up a hill and you have a beautiful view over the ocean. After about 2 kilometers you have a great viewpoint with restaurant, the Noon Sunset View Restaurant. After that you go down the hill and if you park your bike you can walk down to Nui Beach, a secluded beach with no infrastructure. The next bay you reach is Klong Jak, also called Waterfall Bay. Here you can walk to the waterfall or do some elephant trekking.
