Trang for Bikers, Peddling South to Pakbara

The city of Trang is not easy for biking. The traffic is heavy and the road sides are full of irregularly parked vehicles.
We recommend to give the city center of Trang a wide berth.
Coming from the north from Krabi via Koh Lanta and Sikao you arrive in Pak Meng Beach.
From Ban Koh Lanta on the east coast of Koh Lanta take the daily boat to Bo Muang on the main land. On road H4042 ride for 14 km to Ban Sai Khao on highway H4 and turn right. After 8 km turn right again on H4046 to Sikao (19 km) where you can buy some provisions. Turn right to rural road 2021 for Pak Meng (3 km) and join H4162 for another 7 km to reach the beach of Pak Meng (total 51 km). Two and a half km to the south is the very nice Pak Meng Resort with a good restaurant. An ideal place for the night.

From Pak Meng continue to the south over the bridge, take a ride in view of Chang Lang Beach and turn off at KM 16 to Kantang (13 km and then 2 1/2 km to the ferry, 20 Baht). On the other side drive straight until you see the train station and the post office, turn right towards the main road H403 and turn left in the direction of Trang. After 2 km you see the First Rubber Tree in Thailand Monument on the other side of the road.
3.6 km further on (KM90) is the large railway bridge. You turn left (signboard: Ban Thung Khai) just before the bridge and immediately right to pass under the bridge (signboard: Yan Tha Kao) into H4261. You ride for 12.3 km until you reach H404, then you continue for 10 km to Yan Ta Khao. 1 km south of town we recommend to turn east at KM 22 into country road H4125. After 14 km turn right and after another 13 km you will reach Thung Yao. (On the alternative from Yan Ta Khao to the south through rubber plantations on H404 and on H416 you save 4 km to Thung Yao).
From Thung Yao you ride due east for 9 km and then uphill for 1.5 km. Just beyond the pass you see Khao Ting Cave on your right. If you still have some energy left, you can make a detour at the foot of the pass at KM 34.9 to the waterfall Tan Pliu in the midst of the jungle (mainly on steep paved roads for 6.7 km, food stalls).
Now it is an easy ride to Thung Wa (16 km, total from Kantang 85 km, from Pak Meng 119 km).
You can stay overnight in Kantang, Yan Ta Khao and in the Green House Hotel (150 to 300 Baht) which is on your left just before you reach Thung Wa.

The next morning you continue via La-Ngu to Pakbara (35 km). Altogether approximately 154 km from Pak Meng.
