Departure from Khao Lak, Phang Nga

From Khao Lak all departure is by bus, by minivan or by taxi.

The most frequent bus Is the route between Phuket and Surat Thani followed by the bus between Phuket and Chumphon.

Minivans run to the main tourist destinations in the south of Thailand.

Taxis are used for the transfer of tourists to the airport in the north of Phuket Island, 82 km south of Khao Lak Center.

An excellent alternative to the direct bus from Khao Lak to Bangkok is the 5-day trip by rental car or a taxi with driver and guide along the beautiful gulf coast to Bangkok.

From Khao Lak to Bangkok by bus

Most buses from Phuket and Bangkok pass through Khao Lak. Especially the air con night buses stop at Khao Lak - Bang Niang bus station in the late afternoon.

From Khao Lak to all destinations in the South

Direct buses go from Khao Lak to Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani (with Khao Sok on the way) and Phuket.
For all other destinations in the south of Thailand bus passengers have to change buses in the new bus station of Khok Kloi, 54 km south of Khao Lak (50 to 70 Baht).

By Minivan from Khao Lak to the South

Every day at 8 am minivans and minibuses leave from Khao Lak directly to various tourist destinations in the south. The rates are between 350 and 700 Baht.
Included is the pickup service from the hotel to the travel agency around 7.30 am where the minivan departs between 8 and 8.15 am.

By Taxi

Every travel agency in Khao Lak can arrange a taxi transfer from Khao Lak to Phuket Airport and to other destinations in the south of Thailand.

The cost per trip to the airport is 1300 to 1600 Baht, for hotel taxis even more than 1800 Baht.
"Taxis" by the roadside offering trips for less than 1200 Baht must save something -- that is safety, of course.

Only cars with a green number plate are registered taxis and only company minibuses with a yellow number plate are legal taxis. Unfortunately the most popular taxi service in Khao Lak does not offer all taxis with a green license plate. Tourists simply don't know what it means to use a cheap, but unlicensed taxi.

Registered taxis are fully insured. An accident will immediately be handed over to the insurance whose agent handles the case professionally.
Injured passengers will be taken to the excellent private Bangkok Hospital Phuket immediately, other passengers will not miss their flight, and the accident will remain an unpleasant event, but not develop into a nightmarish disaster.

We wish all tourists of Khao Lak that they will never be involved in an accident with an outlaw taxi driver as this could be the beginning of a nightmare.

Taxi Miss Beauty (PhuketAirport)

Miss Beauty has her driving license for 8 years. She has been a taxi driver since 2017 between Phuket Airport and Khao Lak, first with a private car, now with a legal taxi. Miss Beauty has learned driving a taxi from her mother, Mrs. Pimmanee, who has been a taxi driver since 2008. She has also learned to become a very careful driver.
She speaks only little English, but understands English quite well.
The trip from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak costs 1700 Baht for 2 persons, 2000 Baht for 3 passengers. A night surcharge of 500 Baht applies from 20 hours to 6 in the morning (8 pm to 6 am).
For 4 or more passengers she arranges the legal minibus taxi of Mr. Wat. The fare is 2500 Baht for 4 to 7 passengers.

Miss Pimmanee (nickname Jiab) obtained the first legal taxi license in Khao Lak in 2009.
It took 10 long, long months to get the green number plate with the number 1 (later by government order changed to 67). She had to pass a difficult taxi driver course and had to fulfill many unforeseen requirements like a real garage for her car. Her taxi has a first class insurance (300 Baht per trip).
Miss Pimmanee is very friendly and speaks enough English to communicate with her passengers.
The transfer from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak costs 1700 Baht per trip for 2 persons.
If passengers get delayed she wants to be informed by a telephone call or by SMS.
