Transfer to Phuket Airport by legal Taxi

Transfer by Taxi to Phuket Airport

Every travel agency in Khao Lak can arrange a taxi transfer from Khao Lak to Phuket Airport and to other destinations in the south of Thailand.
Due to the tedious bureaucratic procedure and the high cost not all taxi drivers in Khao Lak have registered their car as a legal taxi, pay for the very costly taxi insurance and undergo the monthly vehicle inspection.
The fixed cost per trip to Phuket Airport is more than 1500 Baht, for hotel taxis even more than 1800 Baht.
"Taxis" by the roadside offering trips for less than 1400 Baht must save something -- you may guess what.

Taxi Miss Beauty (PhuketAirport)

Miss Beauty has her driving license for 8 years. She has been a taxi driver since 2017 between Phuket Airport and Khao Lak, first with a private car, now with a legal taxi. Miss Beauty has learned driving a taxi from her mother, Mrs. Pimmanee, who has been a taxi driver since 2008. She has also learned to become a very careful driver.
She speaks only little English, but understands English quite well.
The trip from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak costs 1700 Baht for 2 persons, 2000 Baht for 3 passengers. A night surcharge of 500 Baht applies from 20 hours to 6 in the morning (8 pm to 6 am).
For 4 or more passengers she arranges the legal minibus taxi of Mr. Wat. The fare is 2500 Baht for 4 to 7 passengers.

Taxi Number 171 (เท็กซี) (KhaoLak)

Miss Pimmanee (nickname Jiab) obtained the first legal taxi license in Khao Lak in 2009.
It took 10 long, long months to get the green number plate with the number 1 (later by government order changed to 67). She had to pass a difficult taxi driver course and had to fulfill many unforeseen requirements like a real garage for her car. Her taxi has a first class insurance (300 Baht per trip).
Miss Pimmanee is very friendly and speaks enough English to communicate with her passengers.
The transfer from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak costs 1700 Baht per trip for 2 persons.
If passengers get delayed she wants to be informed by a telephone call or by SMS.
If you did not book your hotel with the help of Internet Booking Service Khao Lak, you may still use the taxi service of Khun Pimmanee by mailing to khaolaktransfer@gmail.com

Transfer by legal Taxi to Phuket Airport

Only cars with a green number plate are registered taxis and only company minibuses with a yellow number plate are legal minibus taxis

As it seems fashionable for many social minded tourists to "support poor local residents" by using their private cars as a taxi, it should be noted that this happens at the expense of the safety of the passengers.
No Thai in Khao Lak area has ever attended a driving school - although many have passed the driving test. Most Thais in Khao Lak area do not know even the most basic traffic rules. Except for legal taxi drivers, of course, they had to prove their knowledge and driving skill in a difficult test.
A taxi driver who pretends the test was easy, just wants to impress you.

In addition every private car insurance becomes invalid when the car is used as a tourist taxi.
What a big risk for a Thai friend who offers to take you to the airport with his own car!
As the Thai politeness requires him to offer you this service he has no choice, even with a very high risk involved.
Whoever tells you that this is not true, has never made the experience himself.

Registered taxi drivers are fully insured. An accident will be handed over immediately to the insurance whose agent handles the case professionally.
Injured passengers will be taken to the excellent private Bangkok Hospital Phuket by rescue car, other passengers will not miss their flight, and the accident will remain an unpleasant event, but not develop into a nightmarish disaster.

If you want to use the "Taxi Number 171" of Khun Chananya for a pleasant, stress free drive back to the airport, for 1700 Baht for 2 passengers, or the SUV Mazda CX-5 of Miss Beauty, for only 2000 Baht for 3 passengers, also with a child seat or a baby seat, then please click here.

We wish all tourists of Khao Lak that they will never be involved in an accident with an outlaw taxi driver as this could be the beginning of a terrible nightmare.

Transfer by Taxi to Surat Thani

Some tourists like to take the day train from Surat Thani (train station Phunpin) to Bangkok around 11 am. The first bus in the morning from Khao Lak to Surat Thani (Bus no. 465) does not reach Phunpin on time. Therefore taking a taxi is the only alternative.
The official fare for a taxi from Phunpin to Khao Lak is 2500 Baht. For the taxi ride from Khao Lak to Phunpin you will most probably pay 3000 Baht as the taxi will come back empty.

Transfer by Taxi to Krabi and Koh Lanta

Some tourists fly back home from Krabi Airport.
The direct taxi ride from Khao Lak to Krabi Airport will cost at least 2800 Baht, more probably even 3000 Baht.

The direct taxi ride to the Ferry Terminal at Krabi for the boat to Koh Lanta will also cost from 2500 to 3000 Baht, depending on the type of car.
The landscape on the way to Krabi is quite spectacular. If you want to use this trip to Krabi also for sightseeing (one or two extra hours), be prepared to pay another 1000 Baht.
A popular stop on the way is at Than Boke Khorani National Park near Ao Luk.
Also a short detour to Srinakarin Park at Phang Nga City is a welcome break of the 3 to 4 hour journey.

A taxi to Rasada Pier in Phuket for the boat to Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta costs from 2000 to 2500 Baht.
We do NOT recommend to take the taxi all the way from Khao Lak to Koh Lanta. Due to the long waiting times for the short ferry this involves a full day trip for the taxi driver, so that he has to charge an outrageous taxi fare that no tourist is ready to pay. Better is the alternative with the boat from Krabi or Phuket (at 13.30 hours) to Koh Lanta.

Than Boke Khorani National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติธารโบกธรณี) (Krabi)
Rates: 10 to 50 Baht

Than Boke Khorani National Park covers an area of 37.5 rai. The Park is covered by a diverse canopy of various species of tree, such as wild gardenia, Asoka, and Apocynaceae that are scattered around Sa Boke Khorani.

At the north end of Sa Boke Korani, which flows through a winding passage in the mountain, is a wood carving of Lord Buddha's footprint and a shrine of Chao Pho To Yuan - To Chong. Other attractions in the park include several limestone mountain caves, verdant mangrove forests and beautiful islands which can be reached only by boat. Admission fee for adults and children are 200 and 100 baht per person. The Park does not provide accommodation, but camping in the park is allowed although tourists have to bring their own tents. Srinakarin Park - Attractions
Srinakarin Park (สวนสมเด็จพระศรีนครินทร์) (PhangNga)

At the southern end of Phang Nga city a set of attractive limestone mountains catches the eye. There are several caves and small streams as well as a large flock of monkeys.
In the 162 rai of Srinakarin Park visitors can enjoy a relaxing place which is very suitable for children, too. In the sheer cliff mountains one can walk through from one side of the cave to the other, viewing the stalagmite and stalactite formations on the way. Near to this cave is a smaller cave named Tham Luk Sua (tiger's cub cave) which also has stalagmites and stalactites. Streams which include fresh water, brackish water, and salty water, run through the caves; the salt water comes from higher sea tides and is why a variety of sea animals live here.
A bridge has been constructed crossing the streams to connect the caves. There are also many monkeys that frequent the front of this cave. The park has spacious grounds with beautiful trees providing shade and many varieties of flowering plants. Golden Hopea trees and Theptaro trees, which are symbolic of the Phang Nga countryside can be seen here also.
For recreation there are also two climbing routes, a jogging path and a small food-stall market around lunch time.
Srinakarin Park is next to the junction of H415 leading to Thap Put and Krabi.

Since 2001 the Internet Booking Service Khao Lak employed only two taxi drivers from Phuket with a legal taxi license, for transfers from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak. Luckily none of the taxi drivers was ever involved in an accident.
Aware of the growing accident rate with outlaw taxi drivers from Phuket and Khao Lak, Internet Booking Service Khao Lak undertook the difficult task to acquire the first legal taxi license for one taxi driver from Khao Lak, Khun Chananya. It took over 10 months for the bureaucratic march through dozens of government offices and over 200,000 Baht of unexpected expenses before Khun Chananya received the first legal taxi license for a taxi driver from Khao Lak, the green license plate
"Number 1".

We are very happy that more taxi drivers followed her example and acquired the coveted green license plate without all the hassle and outrageous cost, as the path was already cleared for them.
Now there are enough taxi drivers in Khao Lak with a legal license and a first class taxi insurance so that no tourist has to run the unpredictable risk of using a taxi without license back to Phuket Airport.

Please understand that now hardly any foreigner living in Khao Lak will help a tourist any more who runs into trouble when using an outlaw taxi driver just to save 600 Baht. We all have paid dearly for helping tourists who live according to the principles of "Geiz ist geil" and don't even consider paying the expenses of their helpers.
