Most tourists walk or go by motorcycle while staying on Koh Tao. Nevertheless motorcycle taxis (starting at 40 Baht) and pick ups (from 130 to 220 Baht) are available.
The four wheel drive pick up from Mae Hat to Tanote Bay leaves at 10.30 am, 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm for 100 Baht per person (minimum of 200 Baht per vehicle), back at 11 am, 4 pm and 6 pm. The prices may drastically increase after dark.
A wide "highway" leads from the south to the north of the island.
A taxi boat departs for Koh Nang Yuan at 10 am and 4.30 pm for 30 to 50 Baht, return trip 60 to 100 Baht. |  |
Many touts and bungalow owners with their own pick ups await the arrival of the boats at the piers. They offer either free transport or charge 20 to 30 Baht to bring their guests to the beaches.
