Chalok Ban Kao Bay

Chalok Ban Kao Bay is a deep bay located in the south. It is bordered picturesquely by palm trees and rocks. At high water a beautiful narrow sandy beach appears. During low tide many coral rocks are visible above the water.
If you like to go swimming here you will have to either wade 100 to 300 m in the water or you just walk for 15 minutes to the small, pretty Freedom Beach. However, this beach was privatized and enriched by a bungalow resort. On the narrow beaches with fine sand, sandflies can be a nuisance at times.

This popular bay is about 2 km on the "highway" from Mae Haad Town. Restaurants, bars, dive centers, travel agencies and shops are located along the road as well as a 7-Eleven, 2 ATMs and a doctor's office.
Almost every accommodation includes a dive school, where ongoing courses are offered in many languages.
Once a week or every fortnight a beach party takes place.

Special restaurants with a view

New Heaven lies on the western hill of Ao Thian with a great view, good and expensive food and slow but friendly service. Guests sit on the floor or on an open-air veranda with tables and chairs.

Last Paradise is a panorama bar located on a hill with stunning views. Once a month a Blackmoon Party takes place.

Taraporn Restaurant is situated west of Chalok Ban Kao Bay and is built right above the water and accessible via a concrete footbridge Amazing views and always full in the evenings. Snorkeling trips around Koh Tao are offered.

A trip to the eastern cape with the bizarre offshore spirit rocks Hin Ta To and Hin Yai Mae is worthwhile. Another scenic spot is the Mountain View Point John Suwan, sturdy shoes are recommended.
