Total Page Views for Satun: 117,701 - Views this week: 117,701
This most southern national park of Thailand lies 40 km south of Satun, right on the border to Malaysia. The Park Headquarter, 074-797073, is only 2 km from the border post Wangprachan and about 75 km from Alor Setar in Malaysia. You can possibly stay in the Park Bungalows which are set around a pretty lake and only highly frequented on weekends, camping is available as well. Food can be ordered from the canteen, during the week only until 4.30 pm. The trails are not always well-maintained and at times not accessible.
A 6-km long trail leads through the jungle to the mountain top where you can pitch your tent.
2 km north of the Headquarter a path turns off left at a sign in Thai script leading to a cave, where many bats gather inside in the evenings.
To the well-signposted Ya-Roy Waterfall (700 m from the road) and along its cascades you hike upwards. A pool amidst the untouched jungle invites for bathing, all year round there is enough water. Many Thais come here during weekends and public holidays.
The national park can be reached by shared taxi from Satun for 50 Baht. From Hat Yai by bus for 38 Baht to Kwuan Don, from here by motorcycle taxi for 60 Baht. To go back to Satun with pick-up from around 10 am to 3.30 pm, otherwise you have to hitchhike.
