Doi Saket - Window to the North

Doi Saket district is located North east of Chiang Mai city. It has borders with the provinces of Chiang Rai and Lampang.  The main village of the district is also named Doi Saket with its temple  overlooking the village.

Wat Phratat Doi Saket (ChiangMaiProvince)

Wat Phratat Doi Saket is the main temple of the village. Majestically located on a hill the temple can be seen from far away. You can either take the stairs that lead to the top of the hill or the road that commences behind the market. The yellow songthaews also take you up there. You can also find a coffee shop and a massage place on the area. After visiting the main temple you can go further up the hill you get to the construction site of the temple´s extension. Not many people are up here. You can find cages with birds, rabbits and various other small animals. The new part of the temple is supposed to be finished by 2015.

The district of Doi Saket is still rural, even being so close to Chiang Mai, which is part of its charm as rice fields still surround the village. Mae Kuang Dam is an important water reservoir and offers leisure activities, such as fishing and boating. The surrounding mountains are a highlight for every biker or cyclist. The National Parks in Doi Saket district offer good hiking and trekking conditions. Jungle flight and Flight of the Gibbon offer adrenaline pumping experiences.

The park has two waterfalls and you can hike to a reservoir that can be fished in and Phu Lnka Luang is the 5th highest mountain in Thailand. The park has a campsite but you have to bring your own tents.

The village of Doi Saket is a typical Thai village with the character of a district town that is overlooked by the beautiful temple. You find Tesco Lotus and 7/11 Stores, a police station, post office, and a big market. Fresh groceries and food is sold from 8.00 to 20.00.
