Getting to Udon Thani


By Bus
Bus Terminal 1 lies between the railway station and the city center. All buses from the East, AC and VIP-buses from Bangkok as well as some private  AC-buses from Chiang Rai arrive here.
Bus Terminal 2 is situated 3 km west of the city at the bypass road. Minibus no. 2, 6, 9 and 23 or rikshaw (60 Baht) from here to the city center. Buses from all other directions arrive at this terminal, also the non AC-buses from Bangkok.
The bus stop for buses from an to Nong Khai is in the north of the city, to get there it takes 10 minutes by rikshaw.
By Train
The railway station in Udon Thani is situated in the east of the city.
From Bangkok there are five trains daily, the trip takes about 10 hours and the ticket costs 369/245 baht in 2nd/3rd class (four trains do not pass Korat). The most suitable train is Diesel Train (DRC) 75 which departs at 8.20 from Bangkok, the journey takes 9 ½ hours.
There are three suitable trains from Nong Khai, at 8.15 h, 18.10 h and 19.05 h, the trip takes almost one hour.
By Plane
The airport, phone 042-246567, lies about 5 km southwest of the city of Udon Thani.
From Bangkok (DMK) with Thai Airways (042-042-411530) three times daily, the fare is 2585 baht.
Air Asia flies once daily from Bangkok, the ticket costs between 399–650 baht excluding fees, about 700 baht.
With Nok Air from Bangkok three times daily, the ticket costs 1229–1529 baht and from Chiang Mai once daily, the fare is about 808–1228 baht excluding fees (about 700 Baht).
