Ko Nang Yuan in July 1991: Some of the most beautiful small bays in the world

The triple island Ko Nang Yuan lies 400 m northwest off the coast of Ko Tao. Ko Nang Yuan is also called Hang Tao (tail of the turtle) by the locals.
Ko Nang Yuan consists of three small islands which are connected by two white sand banks - from above they look like a three-pronged star. That is to be unique in the world.
Only at high tide the sand banks are covered with water and the three islands are completely separated from each other. The island in the middle is surrounded by wonderful round rocks, which reminds tourists a little of the Seychelles.

Ko Nang Yuan today

Ko Nang Yuan is surrounded by spectacular coral reefs. On certain days a few hundred divers and snorkelers populate the 3-12 m deep bays. Particularly fascinating are the clown fish at the Twins.
Snorkelers can see an abundance of fish in the Japanese Gardens.

The restaurant on the middle island is always very busy during the day, however this has hardly any effect on the peaceful atmosphere on both other islands.
Around 4 pm, the day trippers set off and the guests who stay in the bungalows have all the islands to themselves.

With decent shoes, you can climb up on a trail made of planks and concrete steps to the view point of the south island, enjoy the beautiful view and may be you even like to sit on a rock and meditate.

Twenty years ago when hardly anybody in Thailand thought about environmental protection, the owner of Ko Nang Yuan set up far-sighted rules for visitors coming to the islands. No plastic bottles can be brought to the island.
Furthermore, spearfishing is prohibited and no open fires are allowed on the beach.
