Phuket Vegetarian Festival is held from the 1st to the 9th day of the 9th month in the Chinese calendar or equivalent to the international months of September and October. This festival has been practiced by the Chinese living in Phuket since 1825. The main objective is to cleanse the body and soul by practicing Buddhist teachings and refrain from eating meat. During the consecutive 9 days and nights festival, "Sadohkroh" (elimination of bad luck ceremony), Buddha image hailing and more. It is considered one of Phuket's most colorful festivals which always draws both Thai and foreign visitors to the area.
