Dao Thong Restaurant is located in the center of Ban Bang Niang, right on the main road opposite 7-Eleven. It offers a pleasant ambiance, rustic furnishing, and dining with candle light while you listen to the sounds of water which drowns out the traffic noise. A large and completely illustrated menu features interesting and exceptional Thai and Western dishes. Generous portions are served with very creative decoration. This is a popular restaurant that is frequented by elderly couples. Good value for money, the average price ranges between 100 to 150 Baht.

Takieng Restaurant is situated next to the police-boat Tsunami Memorial in Bang Niang. They serve authentic Thai food, including tom yam and seafood. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff very friendly. The owner is from Uttaradit in the north, so many dishes have a touch of northern food.

The Hill Tribes Restaurant is just a normal restaurant; however, because of exaggerated descriptions on the trip adviser.com websites, it has been chosen as the "best" restaurant in Khao Lak. So far, we have not been able to discover any specific hill tribe characteristics. The quality of the dishes is more or less the same as in the simple restaurant located diagonally opposite where it costs only one third the price. Nevertheless, the staff are very friendly and guests often come back. Unfortunately, no hill tribe dishes can be found on the menu.

The Phat Thai Restaurant (Baan Pad Thai) only offers four different dishes, but each one is delicious and freshly prepared. Furthermore, the service is so fast that you have hardly the time to wash your hands and pour water in your glass after ordering - the plate or bowl already comes to your table.
My favorite dish is Suki Nam Talay, a noodle soup with seafood for just 40 Baht - the same price as 25 years ago, when I had my first Suki Nam in Thailand, in the North in Pai at Mr. Vinai's. Only out of curiosity did I order this dish with the Japanese name and I got something completely different than in Japan, of course. But the composition of that dish with its vermicelli, one prawn, pieces of squid, fish balls and crab meat rolls never lost its attraction for me. It comes with a red sauce in case you need to spice it up, but you have to be prepared, this sauce is hotter than it looks!
How can people speak about inflation when you can get a great meal for the same price after 25 years?
By the way, the other dishes for 40 Baht are Hoi Tord, fried mussels with egg and sprouts prepared on a hot plate, Rad Na, noodles with sauce and, of course, Phat Thai - but I do not really appreciate the style of preparation here.

Purn Pay Thai Food is situated next to Saxophone Cafe at Phetkasem Road, just opposite of the TMB Bank. The simple restaurant offers 7 tables and an interesting menu with a large variety (more than 30!) of spicy salads as well as many Thai and Isarn dishes. Reasonably priced, open from noon to 10 pm. New owner.

Smoh Ruer means 'anchor' in English. Therefore the restaurant can be easily recognized by the anchor on its signboard. Thai food here is always good and inexpensive. Many Thais and a few foreigners come for lunch.

The Thana Mongkon Restaurant has no signboard in English. It is situated opposite Bang Niang School on the Main Road. This inexpensive restaurant is very popular among Thais until late in the night.

Without any doubt, this is the best Thai restaurant in Khao Lak. Every Thai person here has already eaten in this restaurant, chosen from the 20 steel bowls and been served Lad Kao (on rice). This is Thai fast food at its best! Drinking water with ice is offered free of charge and the plate with typical green leaves and raw veggies is included anyway. Occasionally there is also Hom Mok Pla for 10 Baht, very delicious and if you eat it together with rice it is not too hot. The side dishes from the steel bowls are freshly cooked from 9 am to 1 pm and from 6 pm to 22 pm.
In the evenings, a clear rice soup is served. Customers can also order some specialties from the menu: Cooked morning glory, 100-year-old eggs, slices of Chinese sausage, all these below 50 Baht and the plate always generously filled. Most of the time I can order my favorite dish: Moo Pat Hed (fried pork with mushrooms). The owner and staff are always very friendly!

The Khrua Khao Lak Restaurant is a typical Thai restaurant on the ground floor of the Your House 1 Guesthouse. It is situated at the highway in the third large townhouse. It consists of an outdoor area with bamboo furniture and an open restaurant in the building. The food is Thai and from Isarn. The lab kai is one of my favorites, served with kao nieo (sticky rice), of course, and not too spicy.

Khao Niau is very famous for its Isaan food. It is managed by Alex who is very nice and likes to give advice about items on the menu. The exclusively designed food menu offers many typical Isaan dishes such as grilled meat, salads, minced meat (chicken, duck, catfish, beef, pork), Isaan Hot Pot, Kau Niau (sticky rice) served in a small woven basket, and some Thai dishes as well. Som Tam Mamuang (mango salad), Lab Pet (minced duck) and Gaeng Om Pok (soup specialty) is especially recommended. However, beef dishes are less delicious as they are very difficult to chew! There are also shakes (50 Baht) and red or white wine. Very reasonably priced (salads from 40 Baht, meat dishes from 70 Baht), fast and friendly service. The furnishing is all made of natural materials: bamboo tables and lower tables with cushions, very cozy. Khao Niau is located directly on the main road in Bang Niang. Very good value for money, highly recommended! Last orders at 21.45 pm.

The Kaffee Bar is a new design coffee shop created by Gang and Mr. Watt. The Kaffee Bar is situated at the northern end of Bang Niang in a three storey shop house. The Kaffee Bar has a very attractive indoor setup and a few rustic tables outside. They serve a large variety of coffee and a great selection of cakes in a fridge with a glass door. The service is very friendly and the atmosphere very welcoming.

According to the taste of the locals, Coffee & Internet serves the best coffee in Khao Lak. Children play games on the computers and create a popular noise level which Thai people usually enjoy. Tourists normally prefer to order take-away coffee.

Mars Bar and Cafe is run by a Thai-English couple, and is on the main Road, just before the Honda garage. Open the whole year round, it is a meeting point for tourists as for ex-pats living here. There is a large variety of cocktails and beers. Mars, a friendly host, with innovative ideas, has decorated the bar in a fashionable style. Once also a DJ, he passionately loves to play 60's and 70's Music. Thursday is "Ladies Night", when ladies as well as men dress up as ladies they are offered drinks at half price. These are fun nights, when people like to have a drink or three or more! New, Monday is men's night and Tuesday is music night ! The food is simple and good value for money. They offer a variety of fast foods, such as Steak and Kidney Pie and chips or mash with beans or mushy peas, curries , sandwiches and breakfasts, as well as " boiled eggs and soldiers" !

In the ground floor of RT Hotel the small RT Cafe Coffee is situated. The young lady bakes her own cakes in different varieties. They are among the cheapest cakes in Khao Lak. But for foreigners they tend to be a little too sweet.

Bread and More Breakfast Restaurant at Phetkasem Highway serves the best and most extensive breakfast options in Khao Lak. Freshly baked rolls, also with wholemeal, poppy seed and sesame, come with a sumptuous breakfast platter. For 220 Baht you can get Parisian ham, pepper ham, salami, zesty liverwurst and/or Nuremberg-style Leberkäse (a type of Bavarian meat loaf) together with a half-boiled egg and freshly pressed orange juice and even more. For many people this meal is sufficient until dinner time.
A second Bread and More is situated at Bang Niang Beach Road next to Bavaria.

If you look at the menu of Pizza, Pasta & Steak you think you are dreaming -- the prices are the same as in Ranong, the least expensive tourist place in Southern Thailand! 60 Baht for a noodle dish, 95 Baht for a pepper steak (pork). The cook worked for many years in Le Meridien , which can be not only recognized by the excellent taste but also by the gorgeous presentation of the dishes.

Mr. Chu Restaurant is an allrounder offering all kinds of dishes from Thai Foods to Pizza and Steak. He also arranges tours to anywhere in Phang Nga Province and runs a taxi service. In the off season he has a special menu with several dishes for exceptionally low prices. He is a joyful person and makes all guests feel happy.
