Doi Inthanon


Doi Inthanon is Thailand´s highest mountain. The summit is 2665 meters above sea level. A well paved road leads through the National Park to the summit. During the cold season from November to March temperatures may drop to 0 degrees.

Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in Thailand with an altitude of 2565 meters. The region around the mountain has been transformed into a National Park, that covers an area 482 sq kms.
A two lane road goes up to the summit, passing the temples for the King and the Queen and various waterfalls Mae Ya Waterfall, Mae Klang Waterfall, Vachirathan Waterfall, Siriphum Waterfall. Huai Sai Luang Waterfall. Mae Pan Waterfall, and Bori Chinda Cave can also be visited.

Hiking trails are well marked and so are the ways to the waterfalls and the cave. Camping is possible. The entrance fee ist 200 Baht for foreigners (100 Baht for children)plus 30 Baht for the car. Thai Nationals and Expats with Thai Driving licence pay 40 Baht per adult and 20 Baht per child plus the vehicle.

Just before the summit you see the two Chedis facing each other, one was erected in honour of the King´s 60th birthday the other for the Queen respectively. Both pagodas can be visited for an entrance fee of 40 Baht per person.
At the foot of the chedis a coffee shop sells souvenirs and snacks.
Doi Inthanon Royal Project is also part of the National Park and can be visited.

On the main road to the summit of Doi Inthanon two Chedis stand against each other; one called Naphamethinidon , meaning 'by the strength of the land and air', and the other, Naphaphonphumisiri , meaning 'being the strength of the air and the grace of the land'. These temples were built to honour the 60th birthday anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1987, and the 60th birthday anniversary of Queen Sirikit in 1992. The view of the terraces is beautiful and handicapped access is possible.


Doi Inthanon Royal Project Research Station ()

Doi Inthanon Royal Project Research Station was established in 1979 to help the hill tribes cultivating cash crops other than opium.They Include coffee and cold climate fruits as well as flowers. Tourists can visit the garden of temperate-climate flowers and a cut-flower nursery.



In Doi Inthanon National Park there are various waterfalls and a cave that are worth visiting.

Doi Inthanon is a well known hiking destination. Trails are marked.

The signs lead you the way or take a look at the map at the entrance of the park.

Camping is possible as well, just contact the headquarters.
