Our team. Behind the scenes: Gerd, the IT specialist in Germany
The German Team Our German programing team is led by Gerd, a veteran IT, server and SEO manager. The computer scientist Richard met Gerd 25 years ago when both worked in a team of trainers and lecturers in a telecommunications company in Stuttgart, Germany. With the advice of Richard, the Thailand travel specialist, Gerd spent his honeymoon in Koh Samui and thus became a Thailand fan. Over the years Gerd specialized in IT and became the head of an IT department. In the year 2007 they began to develop the idea of a new generation online travel guidebook. When later on iPads and Smartphones became readily available they realized that they were on the right track into the future of traveling. First Gerd started to program in the content management system Joomla, but soon became aware of the limitations of an all purpose programming system. For a highly interactive online guidebook a dedicated software is necessary that supports easy administration for researchers and editors to manage the ever changing and growing content of a travel guidebook. The database structure must be so flexible that new destinations and attractions can be added on the fly with the click of a button during the research trip. With Max (Dr. Ezio Arcangeloni) the ideal database programmer joined their team. Together they designed and developed a fast MySQL database that can easily accommodate millions of data, several hundred thousand GPS photographs and the dynamic content of thousands of detailed travel maps in full color. Now Gerd is in charge of the database and extends it according to the needs of the webpage designers, especially for additional languages.
