The manageress, Khun Sao, is very friendly, she does her utmost for her guests.

It comprises of a guesthouse for backpackers and a restaurant and bar on the ground floor. A bed in a dormitory starts from 150 Baht per night. The owner, an older Englishman, takes good care of all facilities and the equipment in his guesthouse.

Dee Seafood Restaurant is situated right on the main road about 50 m from Phu Khao Lak. Several nicely decorated tables, many beautiful orchids and a very friendly service create a pleasant ambiance. The menu offers many Thai dishes (starting from 70 Baht), and the portions are very generous. Fast service, average price range; only dishes with squid are overpriced (140 Baht).

Kinaree Bakery (also spelled Kinnaree) has quite a varied assortment of baked goods. The owner learned from the legendary Austrian lady Marianne who introduced European style baking to Khao Lak. Kinaree is also a restaurant that serves inexpensive snacks. At one side is Capsule Pharmacy, to the other a clothes and souvenir shop.

Kung Seafood Restaurant is situated on Phetkasem Highway. It has been the foremost seafood restaurant in Khao Lak Center for over 10 years and still today is normally fully occupied every evening.

Khao Lak also has a McDonald's! A civilized achievement which makes the locals quite proud. Food from McDonalds is seen as something of an affordable luxury, an item of prestige in Thailand. It is not possible to explain to a Thai person that tourists do not really have the same opinion about that. The prices are standard for western fast food in Thailand; however it costs twice as much as local Thai food. Nevertheless, Thais enjoy the various meals on offer together with their children. The bill gets paid no matter the price. Even the expats living in Khao Lak love McDonald's, naturally, for the happiness of their children. The parents go with their kids though perhaps they would prefer to eat some nice dinner at a much lower price.

Sala Thai is a reasonably priced Thai restaurant located next to Nang Tong Supermarket and opposite Som Sri Restaurant. The very large menu consists of 300 dishes which are served in generous portions with beautiful decoration. This is standard Thai cuisine and the menu prices are average (meat dishes from 90 Baht). Beef and chicken dishes, however, can be a bit hard to chew. Exceptionally fast service, many tables and an outside sitting area as well. Very popular place – even at the beginning of the low season every second table was occupied!

Ga, the owner of the former Ga Restaurant, has opened her restaurant in a new location 30 meters south with the new name My Style Restaurant. As the local cooks from Bang Niang came with her, the same first class authentic Thai dishes are prepared. The only sacrifice to authenticity is the reduced use of chillies and peppers. So guests do not run away in search for water to cool the heat. For years permanent guests in Bang Niang make it a rule to eat at least twice a week in Ga's restaurant in reverence to her excellent cooking standard.

Happy Lagoon Tour on the main road next to Nang Thong Supermarket It is a professionally run tour and travel agency. The owner, Mr. Aoo Saephoo, is very knowledgeable and very helpful. He offers all transport and most tour facilities that are available in Khao Lak. He gives good advice even if he does not earn any money from this information. He can book bungalows on Similan Island, but advises also how to do it yourself. As his office is situated right at the bus stop he gets more than the average share of customers.

Khun Jum, the owner of Na Sin Gallery, comes from an artist family in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Her father can play a large variety of traditional instruments and he is a famous Puppet Player. Khun Jum paints in her own style but for a living has to do the same job as all artists in Khao Lak -- copy paintings on order from tourists and paint portraits from passport photos.
Khun Jum has painted all the title paintings for this website, by now more than 80 paintings. Each painting has its original frame that is the jungle fruit called Lin Fah in the Northwest of Thailand (Isarn), literally translated "Tongue of Heaven", as this meter long fruit hangs down through the canopy of jungle trees.
For her inspiration to paint six typical attractions of each province and tourist destination in Thailand she used original photos taken by the t-globe team or from her own collection. Khun Jum who is a very joyful person will surely become a famous painter of Thailand in a few years.
