Lamuan Seafood is a very popular Seafood Restaurant in the center of Khao Lak Center beside the main road. The owner Lamuan started her restaurant over 20 years ago at Nang Thong Beach. She is an always joyful lady who recognizes all her guests from many years ago. The food in Lamuan Seafood is excellent. I enjoy especially the steamed fish with lemon sauce and her unique Massaman Curry. The drinking coconuts are from her own plantation, their taste is among the best to be found in Khao Lak.

Khao Lak also has a McDonald's! A civilized achievement which makes the locals quite proud. Food from McDonalds is seen as something of an affordable luxury, an item of prestige in Thailand. It is not possible to explain to a Thai person that tourists do not really have the same opinion about that. The prices are standard for western fast food in Thailand; however it costs twice as much as local Thai food. Nevertheless, Thais enjoy the various meals on offer together with their children. The bill gets paid no matter the price. Even the expats living in Khao Lak love McDonald's, naturally, for the happiness of their children. The parents go with their kids though perhaps they would prefer to eat some nice dinner at a much lower price.

Ga, the owner of the former Ga Restaurant, has opened her restaurant in a new location 30 meters south with the new name My Style Restaurant. As the local cooks from Bang Niang came with her, the same first class authentic Thai dishes are prepared. The only sacrifice to authenticity is the reduced use of chillies and peppers. So guests do not run away in search for water to cool the heat. For years permanent guests in Bang Niang make it a rule to eat at least twice a week in Ga's restaurant in reverence to her excellent cooking standard.

Sala Thai is a reasonably priced Thai restaurant located next to Nang Tong Supermarket and opposite Som Sri Restaurant. The very large menu consists of 300 dishes which are served in generous portions with beautiful decoration. This is standard Thai cuisine and the menu prices are average (meat dishes from 90 Baht). Beef and chicken dishes, however, can be a bit hard to chew. Exceptionally fast service, many tables and an outside sitting area as well. Very popular place – even at the beginning of the low season every second table was occupied!

La Aranya is the high class restaurant of the Casa de la Flora Khaolak Resort. A huge number of imported beers are on the menu. Especially proud is the staff of the selection of beer from Belgium. Outside guests rarely visit La Aranya Restaurant.

Nong Prew Restaurant (pronounced Nong Priaw) is situated at the northern end of Bang Niang Beach. Before the new Natural Resort it occupies a beachfront area with salas for eating, krathoms for massage, deck chairs and umbrellas. The round bar looks quite decorative. During the day the area is teaming with tourists enjoying the beach. In the evening portions tend to be substantially larger than during the day. The management is quite service minded and takes very good care of the guests. Around 5 pm music is turned up to unbearable levels so that tourists flee the scene which allows the staff to clean up before tourists come back for the popular sunset hour. Of course most tourists don't understand this clever action and tend to be upset about it. If a table is ordered for a group in the evening, it is nicely placed on the beach and beautifully decorated with table cloth, flowers and decorative lamps.

Sabai Sabai Restaurant is situated right by the beach on the property of The Shambhala Resort. Although the food is delicious and the service excellent, it is only rarely patronized by guests from outside the resort. This is a pity because mama is a very good cook and the prices are reasonable.

Sassi's Beach Club is located in the Ramada Resort Khao Lak at Bang Niang Beach. The cozy restaurant offers a beautiful sea view with the sound of the waves. The quality of their food is excellent in the opinion of the customers. The Thai cuisine is first class. Of course it is more expensive compared to the restaurants outside the resort. Good value for money regarding the food, whereas the prices for drinks are right at the threshold for most people.

Sunny Restaurant and bar on the beach of Sudala Beach Resort serves a splendid variety of international and Thai dishes and has a panoramic view. Their specialty is seafood and fresh fish. Our top favorite in Khao Lak is the Barracuda Filet prepared in 6 variations according to your taste. You pay by the weight, which is only 45 Baht per 100 gram, and a sumptuous salad is included. Lately they have asked for a minimum of 300 grams per serving, but even then, in such a beautiful environment, this is the best value for money you can find in Khao Lak. The drinks are not cheap though. If you are on a budget, an inexpensive bottle of water will do easily.

The Beach Restaurant is located right on the beach in the northern half of Bang Niang Beach. Most tables are positioned on the sand, the sound of the waves is a nice background sound. The Beach Restaurant serves excellent seafood for affordable prices. The cocktail bar offers standard drinks. Chef Jimme Restaurant is situated along Bang Niang Beach Road less than 200 m from the beach. It opened in November 2011 at the end of the row of shop houses and incorporates the garden next to it with the kitchen and the bar in open air. Furniture is made from bamboo and looks inviting. The chef Jimme cooks quite delicious food. Many old guests will know Jim from the famous Ton Son Restaurant at the beach. As in former times her dishes are very good value for the fairly low price. From seven in the evening the restaurant is full every day -- a real success story in Bang Niang, without the help of Holidaycheck or Tripadvisor.

The Garden Restaurant is situated on the road to Ramada and in the garden behind the front shop restaurant. The garden is tastefully arranged with salas and plants. The attached restaurant beside the road is also attractively decorated and contains a large aquarium. The menu is written in several languages. Cocktails cost only 99 Baht. Our test meal was excellent, with friendly explanations of the Belgian owner. For dessert fresh fruit was served on the house.

Joes Steakhouse is one of the most famous restaurants in Khao Lak because the owner, Ludwig Hugsam, was featured on various TV stations in Europe and became so popular that the feature is repeated every year or so.
His steak house is full every evening due to the excellent quality of the steaks and all other dishes that he prepares personally. The side orders like German noodles taste like the originals. Of course the salads are of excellent quality, too, and they are truly safe to eat.
To go to Joes Steakhouse at Bang Niang Beach not in vain, please reserve your table in advance. If you happen to stay until after 10 pm, you may be lucky to meet Ludwig personally, who happens to be one of the great characters in Khao Lak.

Rabeang Restaurant is a very popular Thai restaurant with western flair at the quiet end of Jerung Street. The illustrated menu with photos of all dishes offers a large and interesting choice, many vegetarian dishes, steaks (250 Baht, among others duck steak) with a sauce of your choice, and cocktails from 120 Baht. Very generous portions, beautifully presented and artistically decorated. Fresh fruits are served complimentary for dessert. Upper price range. Inside partially exclusive wooden furnishing, while the open air area is only equipped with plastic tables. Very busy place! The female owner takes very good care of her customers and recognizes each one even if they come back the first time after two years and surprises them with their favorite drink.

The Taj Mahal Restaurant is advertised with full name Tourist Taj Mahal Restaurant. This Indian Restaurant was opened in December 2011. It is situated right behind the Pinocchio Pizzeria in the side road. Despite this close proximity we have seen rarely more than 2 tables occupied by customers. The prices of the Indian dishes correspond to the relatively high price level of Indian restaurants in Khao Lak.

Tom comes from the largest chicken roastery in Ulm in Swabia (Germany). The restaurant became in a very short time THE meeting place for Germans living in Khao Lak -- the wall is decorated with their photos skillfully taken by Tom. And, not to forget, there are Jane's sundaes...

What a surprise! To find authentic Thai food in a dive restaurant is not really common. Anocha, the female owner of Loma Diving Restaurant, is very conscientious to ensure that her food tastes authentic, is only prepared with fresh vegetables and herbs, and does not use any commercially-prepared sauces. Depending at what time the dive groups come back from their trips, the restaurant can be either very full or very quiet. Nevertheless, the food is always delicious and not at all too spicy.

Lucky Seafood Restaurant, a Thai restaurant with a western flair, is located on the access road leading to Baan Bang Niang Beach. A nice menu decorated with photos offers mainly typical Thai dishes; however, the combination of ingredients is exceptional. There are as well specialties such as several duck dishes (150 to 200 Baht). Friendly and fast service, nice and rustic furnishing with many tables. Pao and Yves opened the P & Y Restaurant and Guest house on the road leading to Bang Niang Beach in the year before the Tsunami. It became the first meeting point for the foreigners who started the reconstruction of their houses or businesses in Khao Lak. In the back of the restaurant is a pool table. Most guests sit at comfortable tables and chairs near the entrance where they can enjoy some breeze. Yves, originally Swiss, French descent, enjoys a chat with his guests.

Pinocchio Pizzeria is the most popular restaurant in Bang Niang. Every evening guests flock to this central location to dine in true Italian style. Ramon, the Italian owner, speaks perfect German and takes very good care of his guests. T-Globe has voted him the "best restaurant host" of the Andaman coast. The ingredients for the pizzas are directly imported from Italy according to Ramon. The pizzas are prepared by the cooks in the open kitchen and placed into the wood fired oven in sight of the customers. The waiters present the dishes in professional manner, directed by the owner in an unobtrusive manner. Prices in Pinocchio Pizzeria are at the upper end of all restaurants in Bang Niang but obviously reflect the expectations of customers. Besides Pizzas many other typical Italian dishes are served as well as original Italian wine and other spirits.

Khao Niau is very famous for its Isaan food. It is managed by Alex who is very nice and likes to give advice about items on the menu. The exclusively designed food menu offers many typical Isaan dishes such as grilled meat, salads, minced meat (chicken, duck, catfish, beef, pork), Isaan Hot Pot, Kau Niau (sticky rice) served in a small woven basket, and some Thai dishes as well. Som Tam Mamuang (mango salad), Lab Pet (minced duck) and Gaeng Om Pok (soup specialty) is especially recommended. However, beef dishes are less delicious as they are very difficult to chew! There are also shakes (50 Baht) and red or white wine. Very reasonably priced (salads from 40 Baht, meat dishes from 70 Baht), fast and friendly service. The furnishing is all made of natural materials: bamboo tables and lower tables with cushions, very cozy. Khao Niau is located directly on the main road in Bang Niang. The Hill Tribes Restaurant is just a normal restaurant; however, because of exaggerated descriptions on the trip adviser.com websites, it has been chosen as the "best" restaurant in Khao Lak. So far, we have not been able to discover any specific hill tribe characteristics. The quality of the dishes is more or less the same as in the simple restaurant located diagonally opposite where it costs only one third the price. Nevertheless, the staff are very friendly and guests often come back. Unfortunately, no hill tribe dishes can be found on the menu.

Smoh Ruer means 'anchor' in English. Therefore the restaurant can be easily recognized by the anchor on its signboard. Thai food here is always good and inexpensive. Many Thais and a few foreigners come for lunch.

Without any doubt, this is the best Thai restaurant in Khao Lak. Every Thai person here has already eaten in this restaurant, chosen from the 20 steel bowls and been served Lad Kao (on rice). This is Thai fast food at its best! Drinking water with ice is offered free of charge and the plate with typical green leaves and raw veggies is included anyway. Occasionally there is also Hom Mok Pla for 10 Baht, very delicious and if you eat it together with rice it is not too hot. The side dishes from the steel bowls are freshly cooked from 9 am to 1 pm and from 6 pm to 22 pm.
In the evenings, a clear rice soup is served. Customers can also order some specialties from the menu: Cooked morning glory, 100-year-old eggs, slices of Chinese sausage, all these below 50 Baht and the plate always generously filled. Most of the time I can order my favorite dish: Moo Pat Hed (fried pork with mushrooms). The owner and staff are always very friendly!

The Phat Thai Restaurant (Baan Pad Thai) only offers four different dishes, but each one is delicious and freshly prepared. Furthermore, the service is so fast that you have hardly the time to wash your hands and pour water in your glass after ordering - the plate or bowl already comes to your table.
My favorite dish is Suki Nam Talay, a noodle soup with seafood for just 40 Baht - the same price as 25 years ago, when I had my first Suki Nam in Thailand, in the North in Pai at Mr. Vinai's. Only out of curiosity did I order this dish with the Japanese name and I got something completely different than in Japan, of course. But the composition of that dish with its vermicelli, one prawn, pieces of squid, fish balls and crab meat rolls never lost its attraction for me. It comes with a red sauce in case you need to spice it up, but you have to be prepared, this sauce is hotter than it looks!
How can people speak about inflation when you can get a great meal for the same price after 25 years?
By the way, the other dishes for 40 Baht are Hoi Tord, fried mussels with egg and sprouts prepared on a hot plate, Rad Na, noodles with sauce and, of course, Phat Thai - but I do not really appreciate the style of preparation here.

The Mukhatha Restaurant in Khuk Khak near the petrol station offers the best value for money in the Khao Lak region. All food items are prepared in pots and plates on many tables. The guests select the items they like and take them to their tables. Here the items are placed on a Korean BBQ grill and prepared by themselves according to their taste. The variety in this restaurant is gigantic: many different types of pork, chicken and seafood, many kinds of vegetables, Suki-style Japanese food, various kinds of fried rice and noodles, even an assortment of deserts and ice cream. All this for only 109 Baht per person. If anything is left over at the table, a fine has to be paid. There are at least 60 tables under one roof, and they are always occupied by families or groups of friends.

Pizzeria Da Luciano in Khao Lak is the only pizzeria at Merlin Beach.
Marco, the owner, opened the first Pizzeria - Spaghetti's in Khao Lak more than 10 years ago. Since 3 years he bakes delicious pizza with the wood fired oven at Pizzeria Da Luciano at Merlin Beach. His nicely decorated restaurant also offers excellent steak and other western delicacies.
