Dive Schools
Koh Tao has an excellent reputation among those who want to learn diving. There is hardly another place where people can learn to dive next to their beach hut at such inexpensive rates, considering the low prices for accommodation and food as well.
The standard of the dive schools, which are mostly run by foreigners, is generally very high. The equipment is being regularly renewed and normally well maintained. Dive accidents have almost never occurred with any of them. The victims of the few accidents were mainly not sufficiently trained instructors (dive master), who were working in some dive schools like "dive slaves" – supposedly too much and too long hours.

Attention: In the tropics it is extremely important to drink a lot between the dives in order to prevent dehydration and exhaustion. For this reason some severe accidents have already happened after a  diving session.
If a dive accident occurs, you can contact the SSS Koh Tao Emergency Station, tel. 010-830533, 077-456577, with 24-hour service for emergency first response, oxygen therapy and evacuation service.

In mid-2011 there were more than 50 dive schools and dive resorts.
The prices for dive courses are the same everywhere depending on which PADI Open Water course and are between 9500 and 12000 Baht.
However, what is different is the number of dive students, the duration of the course, the fun involved and the discount on the accommodation. Some dive schools even offer free accommodation.
