Bottle Beach

Bottle Beach (Thai: Hat Khuat) is situated in a narrow, deep bay in the Northeast, and is  400 meters long. It used to be THE place to be for long time travellers. However, times have changed a bit. You can still spot a few freaks staying for several months, but by now the average tourist also calls Bottle Beach home and there are boats taking curious people here almost every hour of the day.

But still, Bottle Beach is one of the few places on Phangan which cannot be reached with a normal car. Many people come by boat from Thong Sala, Chaloklum (the closest and cheapest option) or Hat Rin. Alternatively you can take the demanding road from Ban Tai North and the small path to the left just before getting to Tong Nai Pan. There are only some old hotel signs indicating the way. Depending on your driving skills you can get quite close to Bottle Beach from here, but the last part you will have to walk if you don't happen to be a motocross champion. 
You still get an 'end of the world'- vibe on Bottle Beach. The beach itself is quite clean, but does not offer a lot of shade. Swimming is really good here, as the water gets deep quickly and is very clean. Snorkeling is good on the left side of the bay. Unfortunately, Bottle Beach does neither have a sunrise nor a sunset view, due to its position towards the North. From October thru December, boats can't reach the beach due to high waves, so the resorts are closed during that time of the year. In September and October there seem to be a lot of sandflies.
